Key Notes
A couple of weeks ago I waxed lyrical about the Brackenford Cycle series, the catalyst for that outpouring of love was the release of book number four in the series, Grindhelm’s Key. Tomeopathy always worries about the release of a new book in a cherished series, what if it doesn’t live up to the standards of those which have gone before? Particularly if that series is still in its relative infancy, where the Discworld was concerned, I stopped worrying completely by the time it got to about book 20, at that point I felt Mr Pratchett was actually pretty reliable and he wasn’t going to screw things up. After half an hour back in the company of Trev and his entourage, my concerns were dissipating pretty quickly, by the end, the Brackenford Cycle had cemented its position as one of my favourite fantasy series.
As with a lot of Urban Fantasy there is an element of mystery in the narrative, while the sharp focus of the mystery element shifts from book to book, somewhere in the background blur there is a greater overarching mystery unfolding, this Grindhelm’s Key revealed several further layers of that larger mystery, without unveiling too many answers. The charm I previously wrote about is still intact, largely as a result of theinteractions between Trev’s small band of followers.
Essentially, this is a series that I would highly recommend, it’s relatively inexpensive or free if you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. The quality shows no signs of diminishing and it looks like there is another book on the way soon, so what are you waiting for? All aboard the Brackenford Express.
