A New Leaf
A belated Happy New Year, Tomeopathy apologises for not reaching out with this message sooner, I was busy reading and lost track of time. I hope that you’ve all had the chance to do however much reading you wanted to over the holiday season.
I thought that I’d set down some ambitions that I have for Tomeopathy in the coming year ahead, mostly so that I’m actually committed publicly and can’t pretend I didn’t have any solid plans (unless I just edit the post, mwah hah haaaa), but also so that you can see what’s going on and why it is taking so long for some sections to get up and running (short answer, I have to work to pay my bills, which is deeply annoying). So here’s the plan:-
- Read lots of books, this remains the most important thing I can do, it’s also good for my soul. However I could be more strategic in selecting the books I read and review. I need to catch up on some of the more popular authors and read some for the first time, this should not be at the expense of exploring additional independent authors, which brings me to point 2…
- Write reviews/introductions for the books I’ve already read. I’ve managed to just about keep up with reviews of the books I’ve read since I started the blog, but there’s lots I’ve already read I need to write up, and that includes some less well known authors who are deserving of a wider audience and who you might be missing out on. Let’s say that I’ll add a retrospective review once a week, alongside that I’ll continue to add reviews for new reads as I finish them.
- Add further detail to the library section. This includes completing the entries for the current crop of pages, by adding both introductions and ‘liked this, now try this’ for each author. It also includes adding more authors, so far I’ve only included those who I’ve read and who are popular, I’d like to make this more comprehensive (which means reading more books, see point 1).
- Initiate Recommended Read lists, if you’ve browsed the website recently you may have noticed that if you click on the Recommended Reads link it now takes you to a menu page containing a few categories. Currently none of these category links work, but it’s a step in the right direction at least. I’d like to have this section up and running as soon as possible, I’m going to commit to adding a list a fortnight. Then I’ll try and keep them up to date and add any others I (or you? Suggestions in comments section please) can think of.
- Tomeopathy Jr needs to up their game as well, a solemn promise was made and I intend to ensure it is upheld, this will help with points 2, 3, and 4 above.
- I’d like to add a New Releases section, just listing any interesting new releases that are on their way, should be easy, as long as I can find a reliable source of release dates (so I won’t be asking George or Patrick then).
- You may have noticed on the homepage that there are non-working links to the Auntie O’Pathy and Book Pile sections. It may be that these fall by the wayside for now, I’d rather focus on the other sections until they are complete. To be honest I think that Book Pile will probably become the New Releases section, which will probably be of more use to you, than any intimate knowledge of the contents of my kindle. I’ll try and resurrect (can you resurrect something which has never been alive?!) Auntie O’Pathy at some stage, she’s a tough old biddy though so she can cope with a few months inattention.
- I’ll also try and write more blog entries which aren’t reviews, day to day stuff, venting frustrations and the like.
I think that will do for now, too much ambition is bad for your health.
Finally though, all of this takes time and effort, if you enjoy the website or find it useful, please consider using the links to Amazon and Book Depository, they’re both good retailers and at no cost to yourself this will earn a small commission for the website, which can then be reinvested in books for review and maybe eventually buy out some additional hours to improve the website further. Oh, and if you’re reading this and you have any thoughts on the website, please leave a comment and let me know what you do and don’t like, and what you’d like to see in the future. Alternatively, leave me a comment just to say Hi, I’d appreciate it. J
